I was approached by the founder of this high speed imaging company to paint something that would encapsulate the many areas of his company. This multi-image piece shows not only the products, the process, the people, but also the founder.

A Partnership (R.C.M.P.)
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police wanted a commissioned painting to celebrate “Canada 125” that would show some of their many activities across Canada. Every detachment, almost 800 across the country, now is home to one of these reproductions.

St. Lawrence Rink 1941
This painting "freezes" in time a moment in the winter of 1941. In the late 1930's and early 1940's St. Lawrence Starch flooded its property to the west of the "Centre Road" to produce one of the largest outdoor skating rinks in the country. Young people - and the not so young - came from far and wide to share time with friends and skate to the recorded music of "The Skater's Band" which could be heard all over the village. This company purchased the complete edition of prints with the original.

Home Hardware
With 900 independent dealers from coast to coast across Canada, Home Hardware has a challenge to find specialized merchandise that appeals to all regions. I was approached to produce 400,000 calendars, as well as notecards and tins for them. Since I had painted in many areas across Canada I had many pictures for their selection. All of the paintings in this large project came "from the shelf" so there was no new painting costs involved.

Knechtel Corp.
The Knechtel Corp. started sixty years ago as a wholesale cheese business. In this painting I take you back to a general store of that time. As we do with all commissions we worked with this company to develop an accurate image of their specialty. Fortunately the old store at Doon Heritage Crossroads is from that period. Using four Knechtel employees as models, I was able to reconstruct a believable scene. The company purchased the entire edition of prints. You will also see a detail of this painting on the top of their anniversary cookie tin.

This painting takes me back to my childhood. My identification is so strong because for forty years my Dad and Uncle owned this dairy. I grew up in that business and so I was thrilled when the present owners, Beatrice Canada, came to see me for a commemorative piece for their 60th birthday.

Right From the Start
This commission shows a scene inside of a co-op years ago. Piecing together photos from Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food and using friends and relatives as models, I was able to reverse the clock for another view of time past. The annual report and desk diary of the United Co-operatives of Ontario showed a detail of this commission. They also purchased the complete edition of prints.

Murphy Oil Company
My commission from the president of this oil company was to produce a grouping of paintings that described their business. He wished to use those paintings in his annual report. After flying around Alberta and parts of Saskatchewan, I developed paintings showing various aspects of this company. They now hang in the corporate headquarters in Calgary. Through commissions such as this I am fortunate to meet people who are accomplished in other fields and I enjoy that.

Panasonic
This painting was commissioned by Panasonic to commemorate their twentieth year in business in Canada. Panasonic choose winter as the season typically Canadian. They wanted a representation of Japanese integration into life in Toronto. It was decided two Canadian boys heading to hockey practice, one Caucasian, one Oriental, would neatly symbolize this integration.

National Trust
The president of National Trust asked me to execute a major painting for their new boardroom in Toronto. Marilyn and I met with the National Trust people many times determining the ideas for this coast-to-coast mural. After consultations with the design staff and the architect, we were able to firm up the size and proportions. After three months of travel across the country gathering images and ideas it was possible to put together this montage. In addition to the mural for the boardroom I also painted sixteen pieces from across Canada for a reception room adjacent to the boardroom.
