Carl Zehr, Mayor of Kitchener, received a reproduction of the painting Possibilities as an acknowledgement of the contribution made by the City of Kitchener to Kidsability, a Centre for Child Development. I was especially pleased that Carl was there in person to accept this thank you as we attend Rockway Mennonite School together in the early 1960's. You might well ask why he looks so much younger than I do.
This year Kidsability, formerly the Children's Rotary Centre, celebrated 50 years of providing help to children who face developmental, physical and communication challenges. Each year I paint a piece that I donate to this worthy institution. I also donate an entire edition of reproductions to supporters who gather for the President's

Coming from a family company as I do, I understand the intense relationship that people form with a company which has been their home for many years. I was approached by a woman who wanted a special Christmas gift for her husband who has work with the Schneider's organization for many years. She could furnish me with an archival photo that formed the base of this work.

I was pleased to attend the opening of the newly renovated showroom of Capital Office Interiors in Ottawa. Painting a subject that most people would think strange or without merit, I demonstrated my approach to a business subject. Much of the commission work that I do deals with industry and this was a chance for me to show to the designers and architects that deal with Capital, a personal, made to measure, solution for art work in a business interior. Capital, a Steelcase dealer is interested in the environment and is in the forefront of diverting used systems from landfills through selling & re-manufacturing. I find it exciting to be involved with people who are doing leading edge things. I had no idea that even drywall can be remanufactured. |

Solé Restaurant Opening
The opening at Sole Restaurant in Waterloo signals a change not only in my painting style but also a determination to do more exhibitions out of my gallery. I was thrilled by the hundreds of people who attended. This display of my interpretive work will continue until the end of the year.

Derby Day, New Hamburg
A resident of New Hamburg purchased my recent painting of the Grandstand at New Hamburg. In the spring of 2007 that historic building was destroyed by fire. I remember being taken to the New Hamburg Fall Fair by my Aunt Dorothy when I was just a tyke so I set the painting in the 1952 era. The Canadian Pacing Derby was a feature of that fair in those times. I wished to bring back memories of those halcyon days with this painting and apparently for Mrs. Klassen, the woman who purchased this piece for the Township of Wilmot, I did.
Interpretive Paintings
I have, this year, taken a rather surprising turn in my painting style. After 40 years of painting in quite a traditional way. I have taken flight in a rather different direction. My new work is light hearted and stylized with great emphasis on a rough ground or canvas and highly coloured. Many of these works combine several views or snippets in one themed piece. This change was not anticipated by me but seemed to gush out in a torrent. I am enjoying the process and I am so pleased that the public has greeted them with approval. That is surprising to me in that the people who know my work are so accepting.
