Resting Boats

Image Number:
X0019

Pulled up to this house in a Newfoundland village, these small boats are ready to go back in the sea.

All across Newfoundland, I found delightfully coloured boats and houses. This view, which is not uncommon in the small villages, provides instant design possibilities. This sketch uses acrylic with grease pencil on pastel paper.

Private Road, Bella Lake

Image Number:

Bella Lake is located just off Billie Bear Road, northeast of Huntsville, Ontario. Private lanes lead off the road to cottages near the water and offer such a wonderful chance to imagine what's at the other end.

My long-time friend, Mike Roth, has introduced me to this area which is near his cottage. Almost all of my Muskoka paintings result from visits to Mike and his bride, Melodie.

Dramatic Light in the Rainforest

Image Number:
PS153

This painting springs from the same woodland's walk in a rainforest near Roberts Creek, B.C. as Rainforest Walk, Image # PS152. I was amazed by the type of light in a tightly treed forest of that sort. The light floods down from straight above reminding me of spotlights in a theatre. The areas where the light cannot penetrate are quite dark and almost spooky.

Rainforest Walk

Following a healthy lunch with friends at the Gumboot Cafe in Roberts Creek we were lead, by a woman from Sechelt, on an hour long walk through a piece of rainforest just down the road. This area of B.C.'s Sunshine Coast, just north of Vancouver, is still home to many counter-culture hippie types that seem to be stuck in the 1960s.
