I noticed this small house sitting on a hill when we were on our way to Portmeirion, a strange village created by the architect, Clough Williams-Ellis, in the north of Wales. Quite often on the way to some great site, I spy a small thing that takes my fancy. I think perhaps that is part of being an artist … noticing things.

On a visit to Port Merion, that fantasy village created out of many pieces of mostly Italian architecture, I discovered this small castle, original to the area, not more than one-half mile from the make-believe confection. Since this building was not within Port Merion proper, not even a small sign was posted to tell of its past.
