Mills

Two Old Veterans

Image Number:

The Sheaves Tower at Blair is a landmark in the Waterloo Region. During its working life it supplied additional power to the mill across the road. No longer functional, it is now watched over by the Region's Historical Society. I entitled the painting "Two Old Veterans" because I thought about how long this tree has stood by the Sheaves Tower.

This painting is part of a group of works painted for a series of T.V. programs on Rogers Cable 20.

Mill on Highway #6

The mill on Highway #6 is set back from the road on the west side of the highway. It has been converted to a residence. Many years ago Marilyn and I contemplated converting a barn not a mill into a home but we never got beyond the dreaming stage.

Cranbrook Flour Mill

The Union Mill, Cranbrook, Kent, England, was built in 1814 and stands at the highest point overlooking the town of Cranbrook. It is the second tallest surviving windmill in the British Isles. The mill has undergone major renovations and is in excellent working order. I went up onto the mill and it groaned just like an old ship.

Sheaves Tower was a secondary source of power for Blair Mill across the road. Since no grinding or cutting took place, the tower itself cannot be called a mill.
